Talk topic: In Detec's presentation they will discuss what electronic leak detection is in relation to waterproofing membrane systems, why it is beneficial and who it benefits.

Detec will look at the set of international standards New Zealand follows and the reason they do this is simply because they do not have their own in this area – essentially ELD is in its’ infancy here in NZ in comparison to the rest of the world. Detec will explore the different forms of waterproofing membrane systems testing techniques available, how they work and what separates them including the limitations imposed on each system. Finally they will look at where waterproofing systems have gone wrong and what that means. By reducing water usage for testing is not the only way of ensuring sustainability. Not having to replace building components due to water damage is immeasurably greater. Designing right, building right and ultimately testing right all form the basis for sustainable construction.

Learning Outcomes:

• Understand the benefits and why we test with Electronic Leak Detection.
• Know the differences and limitations between the various forms of Electronic Leak Detection.
• Understand what is required in order to make Electronic Leak Detection Work and what makes it more sustainable.

Talk topic: Thermal break and Joinery

How thermally broken joinery works, with an in depth look at our 800 series suite and how we maintain a fully thermally broken unit, even through the interlockers.

Learning outcomes:

• How to improve thermal joinery through design, glass choice and unit positioning.
• The importance of solar management, glass choice, solar study and modelling, external and internal shading and passive ventilation.
• Designing commercial projects for greater thermal resilience, the importance of managing heat loss in commercial and public buildings with a focus on our 700 series 150mm thermal suite.
