Discovery of gene therapy and its analytical specificities

About the Webinar :

The objective of the presentation is to introduce gene therapy and in particular the therapeutic strategies related to the use of viral vectors.

Then, we will go through the analytical arsenal to characterize and control the quality of gene therapy products used to support clinical studies.

This exercise involves a set of analytical skills as well as complementary scientific profiles allowing to consider viral vectors from different protein and genetic angles.

We will present the main scientific skills (molecular biologist, cell biologist, biochemist...) needed to explore tomorrow's medicines and to contribute to the improvement and extension of patients lives.

About our speaker Gaël Debauve, Ph.D. Head of Gene Therapy CMC Analytics, UCB, Belgium :

Gaël completed a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences (University of Mons, Belgium, 2007) and a master’s degree in management (Louvain School of Management, Belgium, 2011).

In 2008, he joined SGS, a contract laboratory organization, where he managed the Biopharmaceutical QC department.

He then joined UCB in 2011 where he headed the Bioassay development group for 9 years.

Since Feb 2020, he was appointed as Head of Gene Therapy CMC Analytics where main focus is to build a solid analytical package to characterize and release viral vector-based gene therapy products.

On top of the activities at UCB, Gael is associate professor at the University of Mons and is contributing to EDQM MAb working party, to EFPIA CMC/GMP ATMPs sub-team and to USP's Biologics Stakeholder Forum Steering Committee
