Belonging by design: Human-centered teaching in uncertain times (NA timezone)

About this event

Interactive training session

Higher education is navigating real complexity: enrollment pressure, burnout, AI disruption, and rising student expectations. In that reality, belonging isn’t a “nice to have.” It’s foundational to learning, persistence, and well-being.

In this interactive session, Silvia Yancheva hosts a live conversation with Daniel Roca on how intentional, human-centered teaching practices can help students feel seen, safe, and ready to participate, while also supporting faculty in demanding conditions.

We will explore

  • Why belonging matters now (and what it changes for learning and well-being)
  • From “sage on the stage” to human-centered teaching (Daniel’s instructor journey and what it unlocked)
  • Getting to know your students as people (small, repeatable moments that build psychological safety)
  • Formative assessment as a belonging practice (low-stakes check-ins that signal care and strengthen learning communities)
  • Turning insight into action (simple ideas you can try in your next class)

This will be an insightful training for faculty, instructional designers, teaching and learning teams, academic leaders, and student success professionals.
