Future Fest 2023: Architectural "Monsters and Mutants"

With Winka Dubbledam, Archi-Tectonics

For our third live talk of Future Fest 2023, we are thrilled to welcome Winka Dubbledam, Founding Partner of the A+Award-winning firm Archi-Tectonics. Winka will take us through the making of the innovative Asian Games 2022 Master Plan and Hybrid Stadium in Hangzhou, China, from concept to construction.

Archi-Tectonics recently won a design competition for the 2023 Asian Games with a bold and innovative design. Fusing landscape and building program into a tridimensional land-form, the park was considered an agent of environmental change for the city of Hangzhou. Archi-Tectonics designed the Stadiums as Hybrids as both an icon for the games and an active participant in Hangzhou's urban landscape that would generate new activities and uses once the games end. Learning from nature’s intelligence and resilience in environmental challenges, the buildings are designed with a taxonomy that creates a hybrid ready for another future reality.

During this talk, you'll learn:

  • How a park can form a sponge city, and be an agent of environmental change for the future city.
  • How Hybrid Stadiums can act as both an icon for sport and an active participant in Hangzhou's urban landscape.
  • How architecture can learns from nature’s intelligence and resilience to environmental challenges as mutant structures.
