Rethinking the Insurance Opportunity Set

The Biden New Deal: Current Dynamics and Opportunities in US Taxable Munis

3-4.15pm / 1400-1515 CET / 10.00-11.15am EST

25th May 2021

As the world gets closer to overcoming Covid-19 and begins to plan the economic road back, insurers face new challenges and opportunities. Lower for longer yields continue to bedevil the industry but reconstruction also brings with it new solutions for the insurance portfolio.

infrastructure looms large here and in the US, President Joe Biden has unveiled an ambitious fiscal stimulus programme, hailed by many as a modern New Deal. The Biden Plan is anchored around an ambitious programme of infrastructure investment and ensuring the US achieves a 100% clean energy economy with net-zero emissions no later than 2050.

The implications for long-term investors are profound.

Join us for our latest roundtable, in partnership with PIMCO, as we debate the Biden Administration’s renewed focus on infrastructure investment and the possible revival of the Build America Bonds program, with an emphasis on the changing opportunity set for insurance investors in the coming years.

US Taxable Municipals in particular have grown in popularity amongst insurers globally thanks to their strong credit quality, low default rates, positive ESG characteristics, and favourable regulatory capital treatment.

Join us and other leading insurers as we discuss the current and future state of the US Taxable Municipal market, and the likely areas of opportunity. How can insurers leverage current dynamics, and benefit from the currently steep US yield curve?
