GTI invites you to their event

GTI Breakfast News - 14 December 2021

About this event

With young people making career decisions earlier than ever and inequality of opportunity starting as early as primary school, it’s time to talk about PreCruitment.

By PreCruitment, we mean employers engaging students 5+ years prior to them ever hitting a university campus (virtual or otherwise). At this event, we will explore the value of engaging students aged 12-18 with new sectors, skills and opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have considered before applying to university.

Join us to hear from Gen Z experts and understand how employers can make a real difference by engaging prospective applicants early.

Early engagement strategies Stephen Isherwood, CEO, ISE

With most employer efforts focused on engaging and attracting university students, the idea that engagement for graduate roles might need to start as early as Year 8 is a relatively new one. Stephen shares emerging data on early engagement strategies used by ISE employers, bringing it to life with an employer case study.

The student career journey: aged 12, 15 & 17 Mike Hanbidge, Senior Consultant, Blackbridge Communications and Dasha Karzunina, Senior Insights and Strategy Consultant, Cibyl

Just how early do students decide who they might, and might not, become when they grow up? And what can employers do about this? Dasha and Mike present data from Cibyl’s School Leaver Survey reaching 11,500 students across the UK, exploring key influences on career thinking at 12, 15 & 17 years old.

A view from the world’s best teacher… Andria Zafirakou MBE, winner of the 2018 Global Teacher Prize and founder of the charity Artists in Residence.

One of the world’s most highly regarded teachers reflects on why trust is so important when engaging with Gen Z children, and how employers can build that trust and help children discover and embark upon successful and fulfilling careers.

Andria was born in north-west London to Greek-Cypriot parents and state-educated in Brent and Camden. She is an art and textiles teacher in Brent on the outskirts of London, one of the world’s most ethnically diverse places. She is passionate about education and changing the lives of young people and underserved communities through creativity.

Andria has also been named in the top ten of The Evening Standard's 1000 Londoners List. She is a Culture Leader for the World Economic Forum as well as a member of their Global Future Leaders Council. Andria sits on the Advisory board for the Cultural Leaders Alliance, Art UK, Metroland and was the winner of the prestigious GIWA (Greek International Women's award) for Arts and Culture in 2021. Her debut and best-selling book “Those who can, Teach” was published by Bloomsbury in April 2021 and she recently received an “Honoris Causa” Degree from the University of Worcester.
