About this event
Join Hill's Pet Nutrition SA and Dr Iveta Becvarova on Thursday 8 October at 19h30pm for a webinar on:
About the Presentation:
The accumulation of excess body fat has long been known to have adverse effect on health and longevity and data exists to support this assumption in dogs and cats. Veterinary practitioners are often the first to recognize overweight and obese pets on physical examination. An obese pet with two or more comorbidities requires a more tailored approach than an obese pet suffering from excess body fat which has not yet resulted in an obvious negative impact on its overall health. There is erroneous assumption that adverse health effects develop only in grossly obese pets, while overweight pets don't show any obvious morbidities that would require veterinarian's attention. Managing obesity in pets with comorbidities might be problematic as a 'one-size-fits-all' approach doesn't always lead to successful outcome. Documenting associations between obesity and health in pets is important to justify prevention and management of obesity in clinical practice.
