Net zero, or not? Linking climate responsibility to CDR strategy

About this event

Net zero is confusing—and it shouldn’t be.

Between the Paris-aligned 2050 target, company-level goals, evolving standards, and politics, it’s hard to know what’s credible, what’s required, and where removals fit.

This session is a practical walkthrough of the net-zero landscape in 2025:

  • Definitions and ambition – What “net zero” means at the system level vs. the company level; how evolving definitions and guidance affect strategy and claims.
  • Reductions vs. removals – What's the right order of operations? Discussing deep cuts first, where CDR adds value, and the risks of getting the balance wrong.
  • Politics and credibility – How policy frameworks and public expectations shape what you can say, when, and with what evidence.

Bring your questions on claims wording, budgets, and procurement choices. We'll wrap up with a 10 minute Q&A on what to prioritise and how to stay credible when it comes to net zero.

This session is applicable to any sustainability professional building up your internal business case, leadership tasked with determining a decarbonisation budget, or strategist unsure where to get started towards net zero.
