Defending Dairy Performance: Targeted Nutrition to Mitigate Heat-Driven Oxidative Stress

About this event

Heat stress is one of the most underestimated challenges in dairy farming, with both immediate and long-term production and health consequences. As temperatures rise, physiological and metabolic responses elevate the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). At the same time, there is a shortage of antioxidants to fight the increase in ROS. The result is heat stress-induced oxidative stress that further exacerbates production losses and increases health risk. While cooling remains essential to combating heat stress, nutritional strategies can provide another layer of defense. Two nutrients that play a key role in supporting the redox system are selenium (Se) and (Met). Ensuring adequate supply and the optimal source of Se and Met represents an opportunity to optimize antioxidant status and resilience of dairy cows to maintain milk production and health under stressful conditions.

In this webinar we will delve into:

  • The link between heat stress and oxidative stress
  • Selenium’s role in antioxidant systems and why your source of Se matters
  • How Met influences antioxidant synthesis and supports health and performance during heat stress
