Dr. Gerald Horn, M.D. is a laser vision specialist and is one of the pioneers in the field, having dedicated the majority of his career full-time to laser vision surgery, and trained in procedures that evolved into LASIK. Dr. Horn received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and his medical degree in ophthalmology from the University of Illinois Medical School. He completed an internship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital and went on to complete several mini-fellowships on LASIK, radial keratotomy, ALK, and epikeratophakia. Dr. Horn is a fellow of and board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He joined LasikPlus full-time in 1997 and has performed over 89,000 laser correction surgeries during that time. Dr. Horn is an emeritus member of the company’s Medical Advisory Board and continues to evolve and contribute best practices for achieving clinical and operational excellence as the co-medical director of LasikPlus Chicago.

The Emerging Field of Topical Presbyopia -- Review of history of presbyopic correction, including devices, contact lenses, and emerging pharmaceutical options. In order for the optometric community to understand and best vet their professional opportunity and best options for patients a nuanced understanding of this emerging field will have potential strong professional value. Understanding accommodative mechanisms and their drawbacks and advantages, depth of field mechanisms and their potential added value, the role of each with current monovision contact lens patients to create a super near and distance opportunity that could be practice transformative should resonate following taking this course. The course is therefore delving into optics as well as mechanisms of action of this emerging field of drugs - based on their active ingredients and published data.
