Presenters
Mr. Ferguson works as a Consultant in Limb Reconstruction Surgery in the Bone Infection Unit at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in the Oxford University Hospitals, UK. Mr. Ferguson has a special interest in managing complex long-bone infections, fracture-related infections, and limb reconstruction. His research interests include limb reconstruction techniques in bone infection, osteomyelitis, fracture-related infection, local antibiotic carriers, and infected non-union.
Marc Hanschen, M.D., MBA, Professor of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery, PI Trauma-Immunology, Department of Trauma Surgery, Technische Universität München. He began his clinical career at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität. Before moving to the Klinikum Rechts der Isar he undertook a PostDoc Fellowship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
Ass. Prof. Hanschen is the Head of Pelvic and Lower Limb Fractures. A special interest lies in reconstructive surgery and the management of post-traumatic bone infections (FRI). He is currently head of the Department of Experimental Trauma Surgery, where his focus is on research into the post-traumatic immune response.
J. Kent Ellington, MD, MS, FAAOS, Medical director of the Foot and Ankle Institute at OrthoCarolina, is a member-at-large for the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS)® that advances the Society’s mission by funding and promoting education, research, and humanitarian endeavors.
Dr. Ellington earned his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina and completed his internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, followed by a fellowship at the Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. He is currently medical director of the Foot and Ankle Institute at OrthoCarolina, an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biology at University of North Carolina Charlotte, and an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics at Atrium Health.
