Course description:

Locomotion is the basis for human movement, a function from activities of daily living to high level sport performance. Locomotion is influenced by several factors including individual and coordinated efforts of the extremities, torso, and neurological system. The purpose of this course is to provide a foundation of appropriate movement parameters as related to components of gait locomotion and balance The scope is inclusive to various interactions for the components gait locomotion and will also provide the participant with an overview of utilizing the analysis process in developing strategies for managing certain movement outcomes in clinical and performance conditions.

Course objectives:

At the completion of this course the participants will be able to:

• Describe the basic biomechanical and physiological aspects to gait
• Describe the components of the central nervous that are influential to gait
• Describe and assess balance as related to gait movement
• Define strategies to managing negative influences on appropriate movement
