The State of Craft - Episode 14, featuring Timothy Deighton of Sweetgrass Organic Cannabis

About this event

The State of Craft is a bi-weekly live conversation discussing the state of the legal craft cannabis industry presented by CertiCraft

The path into the legal craft cannabis industry is a long and treacherous journey. That's why we are so lucky to be joined by a true cannabis trailblazer, Timothy Deighton of Sweetgrass Organic Cannabis.

Receiving one of the first Health Canada licenses for micro-cultivation and micro-processing, Sweetgrass Organic Cannabis had to fight and learn every step of the way. They have gained a lot of hard won wisdom, and they have generously agreed to share the benefits of that experience with our viewers on the State of Craft!

Despite the hurdles, they are providing exceptional craft cannabis products to the licensed market at their two facilities in the Kootenays, BC. Sweetgrass cannabis is grown in living soil and is certified organic by the Fraser Valley Organic Producers Association (FVOPA). Within their indoor facility, they create a living ecosystem of symbiotic relationships in their soil to create what some consider the ideal growing conditions for premium cannabis.

Join us as Timothy Deighton helps us navigate the many pitfalls and unexpected surprises that await a craft producer planning their transition into the legal market.

For Episode 14, CertiCraft presents:

Timothy Deighton, Co-founder of Sweetgrass Organic Cannabis

With a background in the aviation industry as a commercial pilot, Tim applied his experience of owning and operating an air charter service to the cannabis industry. That was the start of Sweetgrass Cannabis, a licensed micro-cultivator of craft cannabis based in the Kootenay region of BC. It took several years with many twists and turns, including running a consulting company that designed and built ACMPR grow facilities, but Tim found that working closely with Transport Canada prepared him well for all of the trials and tribulations of dealing with Health Canada’s regulations around legalization.

Sweetgrass Cannabis was one of the first licensed micros in Canada (with both micro cultivation and micro processing licenses) and has been growing some of the finest LSO (living soil organic) craft cannabis in the area. Tim, alongside his business partner and their team, have learned a lifetime of lessons first hand and have many things to share from their first few years in operation.

What is The State of Craft?

The State of Craft is a webinar series focused on the legal craft cannabis industry.

The rollout of cannabis legalization in Canada has been full of ups and downs. The craft cannabis industry in particular has been immensely affected by a myriad of challenges and missteps in the years following the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations.

In The State of Craft, Sami Majadla, CEO of CertiCraft, facilitates conversations with leaders in the legal craft cannabis industry to explore what is going well and what is going not-so-well. We'll discuss what can realistically be changed at different levels of government and industry alike to address major issues the craft cannabis sector is facing, and hopefully inspire stimulating ideas of all sorts. Every episode will end with a 15 min live Q&A with our audience.
