About this event
AGENDA:
4pm : Welcome intro from Teulo
4.05pm: Greg Simmons - Insol NZ Ltd
Talk topic: Façade screening is used for sun-shading, privacy, and architectural feature. We’ll give a brief overview of the common forms façade screening takes and the common materials used in their construction, then dive into manufacturing methods for the most common material – Aluminium. We’ll then run through the design and construction of some well known Auckland projects, highlighting the way architectural intent can be realised by engaging with specialist contractors.
4.45pm: Q+A DK (Teulo MC) and Greg Simmons, Insol
5pm Dyann Stewart, Omega Windows and Doors -
Talk topic: The traditional idea of a “barrier” that keeps the warmth in and the cold out isn’t new, in a home the most common barrier is insulation. With aluminium windows and doors that insulation layer is called a “Thermal Break” and just like insulation in the walls, the thermal break stops heat from escaping or cold from entering the home. Windows and doors account for more heat transfer (loss or gain) in an insulated building than any other component, so what can we do to improve that?
New Zealand has had thermally broken joinery (or thermal windows) available on the market for a long time, so why wasn’t the uptake increasing? Could design concepts like Passive house drive high performance window frame and glazing combinations to aid in the elimination of façade thermal bridging? Furthermore, what is the drive for reducing carbon content in the New Zealand construction industry, and how do windows play a part in the reduction of carbon?
