MAKE SURE YOU REGISTER FOR ALL THREE SESSION OF THE DAY - EVEN IF YOU CAN NOT ATTEND! RECORDINGS/REPLAYS OF EACH SESSION WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE REGISTERED.

WE ARE SO EXCITED THAT YOU WILL BE JOINING US FOR OUR 2nd EVENT!

We are excited to announce the 2nd global virtual vet students day event. This day virtually allows for a never-before combination of global speakers and influencers coming together in one space. A range of topics will be covered, including soft skills and “day one” practical skills, you won’t want to miss it!

IMPORTANT: The day is split into three sessions. At the top of this screen you will find a dropdown list - you need to register for all three sessions, by clicking on the dropdown menu on the page above to ensure that you get the link for each session (see image below). Even if you are unable to attend, register! Only registered participants will receive a link to watch the recordings.

Programme for the day (subject to change)

SESSION 1 (sign up with 9am link (GMT+2))

  • 09:00 - Welcome & Introduction (Hill's Pet Nutrition Team)
  • 09:10 - IVSA: COVID & Vet Student experiences globally
  • 09:30 - Equipping the budding veterinary dentist, including virtual demonstration (Dr Cedric Tutt)
  • 10:50 - How not to get COVID from your pangolin (Dr Karin Lourens)
  • 11:40 - Wet Lab*: How to become a star in taking FNAB (Dr Hein Meyer)
  • 12:10 - Question & Answer Session & Panel Discussion
  • 12:30 - IVSA: COVID & Vet Student experiences globally
  • 13:00 - Lunch Break and end of Session 1

*Want to participate in the wet lab? Please have the following with you: A few 5 cc syringes and 11G needles; A few object glasses/microscope slide; Ideally a piece of liver (cow/pork), OR a firm apple. If you can’t get any of the materials, you are welcome to watch the wet lab and do the ‘Do it yourself’ part later, while watching the recording.

  • 16:45 - How to do smears and evaluations (Dr Sue Ettinger, aka Dr Sue Cancer Vet)
  • 17:30 - Body Condition Scoring in Cats and Dogs: Tips for Using the Tools (Dr Angela Rollins)
  • 18:00 - Cats, COVID and crises in surgery (Dr Jolle Kirpensteijn & Dr Susan Little)
  • 19:00 - Close of Virtual Conference

    Dr Susan Little DVM, DABVP

    Dr Susan is one of only 6 board-certified feline specialists in Canada and is the author and editor of two textbooks on feline medicine. She spends a lot of time travelling around the world lecturing to veterinarians: 10-20 countries a year.

    Dr Angela Rollins DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVN University of Tennessee

    Dr. Rollins is a Diplomate and former President of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition. She is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Nutrition at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center, where she also attained her DVM, PhD, and residency training.

    Dr Jolle Kirpensteijn DVM, PhD, Diplomate ACVS and ECVS Chief Professional Veterinary Officer @ Hill’s Pet Nutrition USA

    In 2013, Jolle accepted the Chief Professional Relation Officer position at Hills Pet Nutrition USA. In 2018, he was promoted to the Chief Professional Veterinary Officer position in the US, where he leads all professional activities in the USA.

    Dr Sue Ettinger "Dr Sue Cancer Vet"

    Dr Sue is a boarded veterinary medical cancer specialist. As a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology), she is one of approximately 400 board-certified veterinary specialists in medical oncology in North America.

    Sr Dalene Jansen van Vuuren Hill's Pet Nutrition

    Sr Dalene is a vet nurse who qualified at Onderstepoort Faculty of Vet. Science in SA. She worked in the UK in private practice and returned home to join Hill's Pet Nutrition as a Territory Manager. She has been responsible for Hill's student support at the vet school for the past 13 years.

    Dr Mike Kock

    His wildlife career began at the School of Veterinary Medicine, UC Davis in California in 1980 where he completed a Residency in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine and a Masters in epidemiology. He returned to Africa in 1988 where he has spent the majority of his career as a wildlife veterinarian.

    Dr Lorraine Fleming BVetMed CertVOphthal MRCVS

    Lorraine gained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 1994. She spent 11 years at the Animal Health Trust and was involved in clinical work, research and teaching. In 2005 she started an Ophthalmology referral service at the Grove Veterinary Group in Fakenham, Norfolk.

    Karin Lourens Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital

    Karin's interest in wildlife started in 2012 when she became a volunteer at the FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Johannesburg. Together with wildlife rehabilitation specialist, Nicci Wright, she created the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital and wildlife rehabilitation centre.

    Dr Hein Meyer DVM PhD DIPL-ECVIM Hill's Pet Nutrition

    Hein joined Hill’s Europe as Director of Professional Affairs in 1999, and after several jobs for Hill’s across the globe, he is currently Director of Professional & Veterinary Affairs in Europe, the Middle East and Russia, overseeing the veterinary business channel for Hill’s in this region.

    Dr Darren Berger DVM, Diplomate ACVD Associate Professor @ Veterinary Clinical Sciences

    Darren previously worked as a small animal general practitioner before completing a dermatology residency at Dermatology for Animals in Gilbert, Arizona. His research interests include clinical pharmacology and clinical management of canine atopic dermatitis and equine hypersensitivity disorders.

    Cedric specialized in veterinary dentistry and became a diplomate of the European Veterinary Dental College in 2007. Cedric Tutt has been working at Cape Animal Dentistry Service since January 2004but also works in Hong Kong and Malaysia four times a year.
