Why Public Private Partnerships are Crucial in Combatting Online Fraud
A successful national anti-scam strategy requires close public-private cooperation. Public authorities and law enforcement have the legal mandate to investigate, enforce information sharing, and dismantle criminal networks, but their impact is limited by scale, legal procedures, and the complexity of cross-border cases. Private anti-scam initiatives complement this role by operating at speed and scale, delivering immediate preventive effects and often acting globally within their own ecosystems. However, they rely on public authorities for enforcement and cannot stop scammers alone. Only through strong public-private partnerships can online fraud be tackled effectively.
