Bridging the Gap: How Text to Speech Can Help Incarcerated Learners

Providing educational tools such as text to speech (TTS) is a important component in correctional education programs. Statistically, incarcerated individuals are below average in educational attainment. They may have undisclosed learning disabilities, not speak English as a first language or simply have low reading skills. TTS not only helps improve vocabulary, increases material retention and focus, but also can be part of the holistic path towards successfully completing programs as such the GED, trades and even secondary level degrees.
