Cattle are subject to a variety of physiological, sanitary, environmental (e.g. heat stress), technological and nutritional stresses. These stresses increase free radical production (ROS), resulting in oxidative stress which could have a negative impact on dairy cows when it occurs during critical physiological periods as transition period, at calving or during the peak of lactation. This in turn leads to negative impact on overall milk production, growth & reproductive performance, leading at end to significant direct and indirect economic losses in commercial dairy production.
Thus, to counteract the effects of ROS, the diet should be optimized with an efficient antioxidant supplementation rich with a stable Selenium in rumen to ensure its bioavailability in blood, milk & colostrum.

Dr. Peter Surai started his career as a biochemist and he became in 2000 full Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry at the Scottish Agricultural College. Author of more than 800 publications devoted to antioxidants and Selenium, for the last 20 years he has been lecturing all over the world visiting more than 70 countries.
Dr. Michele De Marco joined Adisseo in 2018. Following his Doctorate in animal nutrition, he worked as a researcher at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Turin, as free-lance poultry nutritionist consultant and as R&D poultry manager for a French premix company. Today, he is author and co-author of more than 30 peer reviewed publications.
