About this event

Use the dropdown above to sign up for one or both of the sessions.

For more than 25 years, thousands of farm owners, managers, and workers have attended SAIF's agricultural safety seminars, learning how to be safe in one of the most hazardous occupations.

Held in several cities across the state, these free, half-day trainings will begin in October 2023 and run through March 2024. Some trainings are conducted entirely in Spanish.

Although the seminars are designed for owners, operators, supervisors, and foremen, anyone working in the agricultural industry is welcome to attend.

Day 1

Emergency first aid on the farm

How many of us know a farmer who has lost a finger, limb—or worse—due to an injury sustained while working in ag? If not properly treated, a traumatic bleeding wound can lead to loss of life in as little as two minutes. Do you and your employees have the skills and tools to stop a massive hemorrhage on your farm in the case of an emergency? This hour long training prepares you to stop the bleed and save lives.

Navigating Oregon OSHA’s Top Citations

Join us as we delve into Oregon OSHA’s top 10 agricultural citations. Learn how to ensure compliance with pesticide and other chemical handling, PPE use, regulations on labor housing along with toilet and hand washing facilities, proper safety committees, and more. This training will equip you with the knowledge to improve workplace safety, reduce risks, and avoid costly penalties. Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your farm’s safety standards and protect your workers!

Day 2

Coexistence with Agricultural Chemicals Revisited

For many of us, pesticides and other chemicals are a fact of life. They help us grow bigger, healthier crops, increase our yields, and cultivate products that might otherwise not be viable. But if handled improperly, chemicals on our farms can pose significant health hazards and financial liabilities. This training will focus on tips, tricks, and best practices in the ever-evolving topic of chemical handling, application, and storage. This topic is being revisited from the 2022-23 seminar season at the request of attendees.

Winter Warriors: Cold Stress Safety on the Farm

Cold stress safety training is essential to prevent hypothermia, frostbite, and other cold-related illnesses.  This hour will cover proper layering of clothing, recognizing early signs of cold stress, implementing warm-up breaks, and discussing what other farms are doing to combat the effects of cold stress on our farmers and farm workers throughout Oregon.
