Fighting E. coli in Weaned Piglets

About this event

In this webinar, we will explore the best ways to address Escherichia coli in swine. E. coli can cause neonatal colibacillosis and post-weaning colibacillosis, two common infections in pigs worldwide. These diseases often result in severe dehydration and loss of body condition in piglets, potentially fatal outcomes for affected piglets, leading to economic losses.

We invited 2 experts to talk about this subject:

  • Prof. Charlotte Lauridsen, Head of Research section for Immunology and Microbiology, Department of Animal Science, Aarhus University
  • Dr. Tim Goossens, Global Scientific & Technical Manager Health by Nutrition
  • Moderated by Maïwenn Bourdoulous

Prof. Charlotte Lauridsen will discuss the relation between oxidative stress and inflammation and enterotoxic E. coli infections in piglets after weaning, and she will explain how vitamins and micronutrients can be used to increase robustness of pigs to prevent E. coli-related post-weaning diarrhoea.

Dr. Tim Goossens will discuss enterotoxic E. coli in the context of the three lines of intestinal health in weaned piglets. Based on the latest insights in short- and medium-chain fatty acid-based products and phytogenics, he will explain how these products can be used to increase animal resilience against E. coli-related post-weaning diarrhoea.
