About this webinar
The Aftershock Virtual Symposium is a project to assess the impact of COVID19 crisis on elective surgical and interventional services and to define the opportunities and barriers for the re-structuring of surgical services within the NHS in the post-COVID landscape.
The three “digital peer review” sessions will focus on audience contribution, discussion and real time polling and feedback. The goal is to publish White Paper editorial reports of the event that summarise the conclusions of this process and which makes recommendations for the future of surgical research and policy.
08:00 – 09:00 BST - Breakfast Session: The COVID surgical plan – An analysis of surgical service disruption.
What is the excess mortality and morbidity from surgical disease during the COVID19 pandemic and how should we measure it? Why was there such significant national variation in surgical services? What new models of care were introduced in surgery that we should keep?
13:00 – 14:00 – Lunchtime Session: How will diagnostic and prevention strategies change in the future?
Have we returned the right level of access for diagnostic services? How do screening programmes have to adjust in the post-COVID environment? How do we now adjust the long term to account for the effects of the pandemic on other effects on public health?
17:00 – 18:00 – Evening Session: How should we design post-COVID-19 elective surgical services?
How should we act now to slow growth in backlog? What does this mean at a national, integrated care system (ICS), institutional level and individual surgeon level? How do we resolve operational, workforce and estates pressures for the post-COVID world?
PanSurg is a international collaborative to deliver safe surgical care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
