Rethink Research invites you to their event

Last Chance Saloon for Gen 3 CSP

About this event

Rethink Energy would like to invite you to a webinar on Tuesday, September 21st 2021 – 4.00pm (GMT) as it unveils its latest forecast – Last Chance Saloon for Gen 3 CSP – detailing how a near-forgotten type of renewable energy is about to stage a comeback.

The report outlines both how well-known Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) approaches have seen a resurgence in China, Chile and elsewhere, and how 1,000-degree-plus designs will play a supporting role in the decarbonization of certain heavy industries.

A 30-minute presentation will be hosted by Rethink’s Solar Analyst and lead author of the report Andries Wantenaar, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. The following guest speakers will join for discussion: Bruce Anderson (CEO of 247Solar), John Ingram (CEO of Focal Line Solar), and Craig Wood (CEO of Vast Solar),

The webinar will cover the following topics:

  • The dramatic and easy LCOE declines which a still-small sector has yet to discover
  • The breadth of CSP designs currently being developed around the world
  • The multiple market opportunities for CSP, especially long-duration energy storage
  • How Western research will enable temperatures as high as 1,500°C to be harnessed

After a decade of neglect and failures, CSP projects are once again a serious force, with China’s developers moving on from a national swathe of full-scale “pilot projects” to develop CSP plants both as standalone projects across the globe, and as long-duration energy storage in several gigantic wind-solar-hydrogen complexes which are planned in China’s desert provinces. In the west, novel approaches are being developed by start-ups and US national research organizations, with steelmaker ArcelorMittal and miner Rio Tinto both in talks with high-temperature CSP company Heliogen.
