Today's battery energy storage systems (BESS) often combine a variety of different devices, from different industries, within a single application.
Flexibility in the selection of components and the resulting modular approach makes the whole system future-proof, flexible, and secures investment. Operational costs can be minimised and dependency on specific components or suppliers can be avoided.
Without this flexibility, the risks aren’t just higher component prices but also maintenance costs or even downtime, especially during periods of component shortage.
To combine these different devices, and to exploit their individual application or industry-specific capabilities, it is necessary to interconnect various protocols and network standards such as CAN, BACnet, KNX, Modbus and others. These can be easily linked via intelligent gateways, which will support the all-important data exchange, while also enabling centralised control. In addition, these gateways can selectively filter, map and, if necessary, manipulate the data to realise the best possible data exchange.
