Can a Leaf Make Music? (Online Demonstration)

About this event

Join Paul and Christopher as they explore the history and technology related to the world of plant musicians and sound designers. During this online demonstration they will share some of their sound experiments while considering what it means to have an artistic collaboration with a tropical plant.

Intended Audience: Adult All Levels: Suitable for all learners, this program will provide a variety of content. Program providers will answer both introductory and more advanced questions.

    Dr. Paul V. Miller Musician, Engineer

    Paul V. Miller has produced several live interactive sound installations with plants, and published in academic journals about his work. He is an active musician, having held principal positions in the Washington Bach Consort and Opera Lafayette. Currently Paul serves as an Associate Professor of Music at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and previously he worked as a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell. He studied at Vassar College, the Eastman School of Music, and for six summers with Karlheinz Stockhausen in Germany. A lifetime lover of the outdoors, Paul grew up hiking the Shawangunk mountains near New Paltz, NY.
