In our Plant Science Conversations series, the Garden's leadership break down current plant science during casual conversations with fascinating researchers. This month we’ve invited our new Curator, Amy Highland. She will discuss her work in plant conservation, the world of public garden plant curation, and share some of her goals for the collections of the U.S. Botanic Garden.

Intended Audience: Adult All Levels: Suitable for all learners, this program will provide a variety of content. Program providers will answer both introductory and more advanced questions.

    Susan Pell (she/her) Executive Director @ U.S. Botanic Garden

    Dr. Susan Pell is a botanist, educator, and the Executive Director of the United States Botanic Garden. Susan has traveled the world collecting plants for scientific study. Her research has focused on the Anacardiaceae family which includes cashews, sumac, and poison ivy. Through her work at the Garden, Susan furthers our mission of inspiring people to appreciate, study, and conserve plants to enrich society locally and globally.

    Amy Highland Curator @ U.S. Botanic Garden

    Amy Highland is the Curator at the U.S. Botanic Garden where she oversees our collections of over 65,000 plants from around the globe. Before joining the USBG, she was the Director of Collections at Mt. Cuba Center, where she managed the living and non-living collections of native plants, with a focus on enhancing the genetic diversity of the gardens and conserving rare and endangered species. She has more than 15 years of experience in plant records, horticulture, conservation, and education, and a degree in Public Horticulture from Purdue University.
