About this Online Session: The impacts of climate change can seem far away in both time (it isn't happening yet) and space (it isn't happening here). One of the clearest signs that climate change has already transformed the natural world is that phenology–or the yearly life cycle events in plants and animals like flowering or migration–has shifted around the world, and maybe even in your backyard. Here we'll explore some evidence for changing phenological events, how that relates to tangible impacts on our food and economic security, and how we as public engagement professionals turn the conversation to impacts that are more tactile and local with our exhibits and programs.
About PLACCE Conversations: PLACCE (Plants and Climate Change Education) is a peer learning group exploring how botanic gardens and arboreta can maximize the impact of a plant-centered climate change education niche. We are dedicated to learning together; creating and testing plant-centered climate change education models; and sharing new understandings, resources, and best practices across the public gardens community. PLACCE Conversations are online professional development opportunities open to education professionals from botanic gardens and arboreta interested in plant-centered climate change education.
