Infection with gastrointestinal helminths in cats and dogs, despite the availability of anthelmintics, remain with high prevalence’s across Europe. This accounts especially to the roundworm Toxocara and tapeworms, such as the cucumber worm Dipylidium caninum or the fox and sheep tapeworms Echinococcus multilocularis and E. granulosus as recent studies have shown. All these invisible parasitic infections of our cats and dogs impact the health of companion animals and in addition bare a high health risk for people, especially children. These GI helminths are regarded as zoonotic and therefore one of the most important One Health issues if it comes to parasite infections in pet animals in Europe.
Paul Overgaauw from Utrecht University, The Netherlands is a leading expert in Toxocara and has recently published his research on prevalence across Europe. Based on his latest findings he will share his view about the implications Toxocara holds for pet and One Health.
Peter Deplazes from Zurich University, Switzerland is the leading expert if it comes to Echinococcus. With his wealth of knowledge that he will share during the webinar, he will cover latest published results on tapeworm infections. Based on research, as the work from Peter Deplazes, the importance of regular deworming, thus tapeworm control, becomes evident.
Join us for this comprehensive webinar and gain latest insights from science in conjunction with how important pet owner advise on deworming to make a difference on public health.
