Oct. 7th Tactics to encourage successful nutrition conversations in veterinary practice

About this event

What is this webinar about:

This webinar explores practical and evidence-informed approaches to improving nutrition communication in small animal veterinary practice. Emphasis will be placed on strategies for initiating effective conversations about cat and dog nutrition, including how to navigate sensitive topics such as overweight and obesity, and how to assess client readiness to change feeding behaviors. Participants will gain insights into common communication barriers, the impact of veterinary messaging on client decision-making, and techniques to support long-term dietary compliance. The session will also cover how to clearly facilitate diet recommendations as part of a comprehensive wellness or treatment plan.

What can you learn:

  • Recognize the importance of assessing client readiness to change and apply strategies to appropriately time and initiate nutrition and weight management conversations.
  • Incorporate in-clinic communication tools (e.g., body condition scoring systems, educational materials, and structured discussion aids) to support personalized nutrition recommendations and facilitate educational conversations with pet owners.
  • Apply well-informed and empathetic communication strategies to deliver individualized nutrition recommendations across different life stages.
  • Explore communication challenges in discussing pet nutrition and weight management and identify evidence-based strategies to overcome these barriers in practice.
  • Understand the role of nutrition communication in preventive care and wellness visits, and how early engagement can support long-term pet health outcomes.
