About this event
What is this webinar about:
Behavioural medications are most effective when paired with clear client communication, early recognition of warning signs, and structured follow-up. However, many cases fail not because of drug selection, but because expectations, monitoring, and reassessment were not clearly established. This lecture focuses on the practical clinical conversations veterinarians must have when initiating and managing behavioural pharmacotherapy. Participants will learn how to screen for early behavioural warning signs, guide clients through treatment decisions such as supplement versus medication use, and explain differences between commonly used options such as fluoxetine (Reconcile) and clomipramine (Clomicalm). The session will also address how to communicate expectations at the start of treatment, establish appropriate follow-up schedules, and troubleshoot cases when clients report that medication “isn’t working.” Using practical examples and communication frameworks, attendees will gain strategies for improving adherence, recognizing when treatment plans must change, and supporting clients through the behaviour treatment process.
