Join Prof. Dr. Wojciech Niżański (DVM, PhD, Corr. Member Polish Academy of Sciences) for the concluding session of the Virbac Reproductive Management Series: "Prostate problems in dogs - diagnosis and treatment options."
As part of our 3-part educational series running from October to December, this program is designed specifically for general veterinary practitioners to bridge evidence-based endocrinology with everyday clinical practice.
This practical session will delve into the most common canine prostatic disorders—specifically Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and Prostatitis. We will review actionable diagnostic protocols, teaching you how to accurately differentiate these frequently co-occurring, androgen-dependent conditions using multimodal approaches such as ultrasound examination, prostatic fluid assessment, and blood testing (including the CPSE marker).
Furthermore, we will examine the complete spectrum of management options. Moving beyond traditional surgical castration, we will explore medical management approaches—such as osaterone acetate for reproductive dogs and deslorelin implants for all dogs—alongside targeted antibiotic therapies and key insights into rarer conditions like prostatic carcinoma.
You will leave equipped to confidently diagnose, differentiate, and medically manage canine prostate problems in your daily practice, offering pet owners modern, highly effective, and tailored therapeutic choices for their dogs.
