Sweet and sour- low stress management of the diabetic cat

Diabetes mellitus is a common endocrine disease in cats but there is no consensus on the best approach to management. The objectives of the presentation are to help you understand the goals of managing diabetic cats, explore different management options, and learn about recent tools and new drugs. You will get information to help you answer common questions: Which insulin is best for cats? Should we push for tight control and remission? Or is it better to prioritize quality of life with a patient-centric approach? What about the new oral drugs coming on the market for managing feline diabetics? Should we still do blood glucose curves or is it better to use a continuous glucose monitor?

Susan Little, DVM, DABVP (Feline): @CatVetSusan

Dr. Susan Little received her BSc from Dalhousie University (Nova Scotia, Canada) and her DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. She has been in feline practice since 1990 and has been board certified in Feline Practice since 1997. She is part owner of two feline specialty practices in Ottawa, Canada. She has served on the board of the International Council for Veterinary Assessments and the Winn Feline Foundation/EveryCat Health Foundation. She is a peer reviewer for veterinary journals as well as the author or co-author of many journal articles. Dr. Little is the recipient of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Assoc. Small Animal Practitioner Award (2010), the NAVC Small Animal Speaker of the Year Award (2013), and the International Society of Feline Medicine/Hill's Pet Nutrition Award for outstanding contributions to feline medicine (2013). She is the editor and co-author of The Cat – Clinical Medicine and Management (1st edition 2015, 2nd edition 2023) and August's Consultations in Feline Internal Medicine, Volume 7 (Elsevier, 2015).
