About this event
Fasting practices, ranging from health-oriented diets to spiritually motivated fasts, have gained prominence as a transformative approach to health, wellness, and nutrition. With a spectrum of fasting methods such as time-restricted eating, alternate-day fasts, and long-term fasts gaining traction, these practices are being adopted globally to manage weight, improve metabolic health, decrease the risk of many chronic diseases like cancer, and enhance overall health outcomes.
However, navigating these fasting practices requires a deeper understanding of their benefits and potential risks such as concerning the effects of extreme fasting on the consequent risk of overeating. For example, a study in the Journal of Eating Disorders in 2020 highlighted the possible link between intermittent fasting and the development of disordered eating patterns in some individuals.
This webinar, led by Alex Ruani, Chief Science Educator and UCL Doctoral Researcher, will delve into the intricacies of fasting diets, shedding light on both their scientific underpinnings and their practical implications.
