SAVETCON invites you to their event

What we don’t think about when prescribing medications to our patients

About this event

Generic and innovator pharmaceuticals are commonly used in veterinary practices. Generic medicines represent a cheaper alternative for veterinarians in practice. This talk will discuss briefly the history of the registration of generic medicines, how generic medicines are registered and how they may differ from innovator products. Some generics improve on innovator products while others are equal or worse. Failure of treatment due to changing patients from one medications to another is well described in the literature. This is especially true for narrow therapeutic index medications. Examples of medicines where this has happened is cyclosporine and furosemide where small changes in bioavailability can lead to clinically significant changes. Have you ever considered an adverse event or a failure in treatment due to change in medication? Compounded medicines add an additional dimension as they are not evaluated to the same extent as registered pharmaceutical products.
