About this event

Ten ways to improve your orthopaedic examination

An orthopaedic examination (full musculoskeletal and neurological assessment) should be used as a tool to help determine if the cause for underlying lameness, weakness, lethargy, ataxia, incoordination, and intolerance may be related to an orthopaedic condition. It should be used to try localise the condition and help formulate a plan with regards to further diagnostic tests like radiographs, computed tomography, MRI, joint taps, arthroscopy etc to plan the best treatment options. An orthopaedic examination allows you to determine the presence or absence of orthopaedic disease and forms a critical part of an orthopaedic work up to aid in discussion of treatment options and prognosis for the owner. And to correctly diagnose any orthopaedic condition it starts with a thorough orthopaedic examination.
